Federal government awards $108M to Coney Island Houses to combat future hurricanes

Daily News excerpt -

The federal government has awarded $108 million to Coney Island Houses in Brooklyn to combat future hurricanes, Mayor de Blasio announced Friday.

The funding — the single largest investment in the sea-side development in decades — will serve as a model for how the city seeks federal money for other New York City Housing Authority buildings hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.

Officials said future buildings that could end up with similar funding include NYCHA developments in the Lower East Side, Red Hook, and the Rockaways.
